The Mayday

  1. THE MAYDAY - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille paper. It appears in the book, "Anita," by Keith Roberts, published by Owlswick Press, 1990.

When I was drawing this picture I had to create a few sea creatures to put in it, and in doing so I began thinking of all the species living beneath the sea. And when I thought of all the different species of creatures that live on land I became overwhelmed with what was going on in this world while I was drawing this picture.

Imagine, while I'm inking the border on this picture, billions of creatures, big and small all over the planet, on land and beneath it's seas are fighting for survival. And whenever I start thinking that way I get a little peeved with myself and turn the radio on, or play a music CD. There is no doubt about it, I think too much!
